Ultramarathon training

Anything past 42.2 km. Ultra training is time on your feet, hills, eating on the move and learning to stay patient. Amman is a good place to learn all four.

How to train for an ultra

Most ultra runners come from the marathon. The jump is less about speed and more about durability: long days, back-to-back runs and climbing.

Your plan mixes the club long run with extra time on hills and trails, and practice with food, water and kit.

How it works with the club

  1. 1

    Take the quiz

Four questions point you to the right goal page and sessions.

  2. 2

    Come on Monday

The Open Run is open to everyone: download the app and check in.

  3. 3

    Get your plan

Members get a plan for their goal race, with club sessions built in.

  4. 4

    Train with the crew

Wednesday track, Saturday long run, and race day as a team.

The club sessions you would come to

What a typical week looks like

Monday
Easy Open Run
Wednesday
Track: steady reps, then strength
Midweek
An easy run, hills if you can
Saturday
Long run measured in hours, with food practice
Sunday
An easy run on tired legs, when your plan says so

An example week, not your plan. Your coach sets the real numbers from where you are now.

Questions

Do I need to have run a marathon?

Usually yes. Talk to a coach if you want to go straight to an ultra.

Do you run trails?

The Saturday long run is on the Dabouq hills, and the club plans trail trips. Check the events page.
